Handmade Oak Furniture

Here at Hall Farm Reproductions all our furniture is handmade

This means for our customers is that as we produce English handmade bespoke furniture where they are able to ask us for almost any design of furniture, whether it’s of a Modern or a Reproduction design.

Part of my job as the designer of our handmade furniture is to consult with the customer to find out what their requirements are from having a piece of furniture handmade by us. Firstly we would find out what type of furniture they are after, whether it’s an old design of period furniture or a Contemporary design to fall in with today’s living.

When creating a handmade piece we will go down the same road of design and manufacture whether it be an old or new design, all dovetail joints on drawers and boxes would be cut by hand and the carcase construction would be done in the same way too.

With handmade bespoke furniture the possibilities are endless so being able to get this on paper for the cabinet maker to create is all about knowing proportions of design, the only time I would move away from this is when you cross design with practicality, for instance if a drawer needs to hold something specific but may look top heavy or just to large, all I can do for this as the designer is let the customer decide if they can live with it or if they would like me to hide this away behind a door to keep the proportions of the pieces pleasing to the eye.

By having a piece handmade means that for the customer, if you have come up with your own idea but don’t know how to get that idea over onto a piece of furniture, as the designer of furniture I would be able to create the look for you, whether that be a square or turned handle on a drawer or a different door or a leg of a table, or using different woods or carvings, all these things are possible to have designed when choosing to have your furniture Handmade.

Why Oak?

Oak is in my eye one of the most versatile woods you can use for furniture there is, It has been used for hundreds of years for furniture and most people relate old furniture as being made in oak.

The Oak that we use is Kiln dried or air dried and mostly French, this is because it is a faster growing oak and comes from managed forests, The difference between English oak and French oak is very small and to the untrained eye there would be nothing to distinguish between them, But if you as our customer would like to have English oak then this can easily be provided
